Developing a Fitness Attitude - A Healthy Weight Loss Program Approach
Exercise is Not a Four Letter Word It's obvious that the word 'exercise' has more than four letters, but many of us will agree it sounds like a four-letter word. Indeed, many people feel so negatively about exercise, experts often advise using the term 'physical activity' instead. No matter what you call it, moving your body is critical to feeling and staying well. And to achieve and maintain healthy weights, it's key. The sticking point generally comes when we try to do it. (Regardless what Nike says, there's a bit more to it sometimes than just doing it.) So ...

What One Should Know About Allergies
Allergies affect approximately 60 million Americans, which means one in every five adults or children suffer from them, and are common in men as well as in women. Thirty-five million people have upper respiratory symptoms, which are allergic reactions to airborne pollen. Around 10 million Americans have allergies to cats and two million present severe reactions to various insect stings. Food allergies are less common in the family of allergies. | Genetics News:
New miniaturised chip dramatically reduces time taken for DNA analysis
The portable device will speed up performing paternity tests, identifying bacterial infections and detecting genetically modified organisms (GMOs)A team of researchers at the Universitat Autтnoma de Barcelona has developed new miniature sensors for analysing DNA. The sensors have the same size and thickness as a fingernail and reduce the time needed to identify DNA chains to several minutes or a few hours, depending on each chain. These sensors can be applied to many different tasks, ranging from paternity tests and identifying people to detecting genetically modified food, identifying bacterial strains in foodborne illnesses and testing genetic toxicity in new drugs. Once mass production of the sensors begins, their cost and availability will be similar to that of pregnancy test kits found in pharmacies.
Nanocrystals highlight DNA mutations
Researchers at Arizona State University, US, have developed a technique that uses nanocrystals to detect genetic mutations. The method creates a bioelectronic signature for point mutations known as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The ultimate goal is to make something similar to a hand-held glucose monitor for future genetic testing,? said researcher Joseph Wang. The electronic detection of DNA is a thing of beauty.
Genetic testing races toward day when diseases can be predicted
Doctors can now take a few of your cells, pull out the DNA, stretch it across a screen and diagnose more than 1,100 genetic defects that could mean trouble, ranging from rare disorders to more common ones like ...
