Nothing here Folks
Some people say the Net is a great wasteland, all those billions of bits and bytes of data zooming around in all directions, without form or content. Such people are full of something savvy computer professionals call "hooey".
Fact is, it's almost impossible to spend any amount of time on the Net without accomplishing something, even when you don't want to. Now, doing nothing - that takes focus and discipline. Sounds odd, but the hardcore slacker must be the very picture of diligence in his fight against that old bugaboo - productivity. Let your guard down for a second and you'll be cal ...

Ingrown Hair - Seven Causes & Eight Effects
Ingrown Hair - Seven Causes & Eight Effects CAUSES 1. Skin suffering from lack of moisture 2. Stiff beard hair 3. Embedded oil in the hair follicles 4. Build up of dead skin cells in the pores and on the surface of the skin can cause ingrown hairs - some are more prone to this than others due to genetics 5. Coarse curly hair growing in a curved hair follicle 6. Improper shaving technique with a blade such as too close a shave 7. Hair removal methods such as shaving, waxing, tweezing, electrolysis, often irritate the hair follicle. Dead c ...

Nucleoside derivatives as inhibitors of rna-dependent rna viral polymerase
The present invention provides nucleoside compounds and certain derivatives thereof which are inhibitors of RNA-dependent RNA viral polymerase. These compounds are inhibitors of RNA-dependent RNA viral replication and are useful for the treatment of RNA-dependent RNA viral infection. They are particularly useful as inhibitors of hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS5B...
Site-specific biotinylation of RNA molecules by transcription using unnatural base pairs.
Publication Date: 2005 PMID: 16113238Authors: Moriyama, K. - Kimoto, M. - Mitsui, T. - Yokoyama, S. - Hirao, I.Journal: Nucleic Acids ResDirect site-specific biotinylation of RNA molecules was achieved by specific transcription mediated by unnatural base pairs. Unnatural base pairs between 2-amino-6-(2-thienyl)purine (denoted by s) and 2-oxo(1H)pyridine (denoted by y), or 2-amino-6-(2-thiazolyl)purine (denoted as v) and y specifically function in T7 transcription. Using these unnatural base pairs, the substrate of biotinylated-y (Bio-yTP) was selectively incorporated into RNA, opposite s or v in the DNA templates, by T7 RNA polymerase. This method was applied to the immobilization of an RNA aptamer on sensor chips, and the aptamer accurately recognized its target protein. This direct site-specific biotinylation will provide a tool for RNA-based biotechnologies.
Arcturus Bioscience, Inc.: Novel Method for Gene Expression Profiling of Rat and Mouse Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) Tissues
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (MARKET WIRE) Arcturus today announced a new application for gene expression profiling of rat and mouse tissues from FFPE samples using the Paradise(TM) Reagent System. Rat and mouse models are used in the discovery and development of potential drugs. Toxicological and disease effects are assessed using gene expression analysis of the animals' tissues. However, since these tissues are commonly preserved by FFPE, the extraction and isolation of RNA with

Weight Gain Myths
The vast majority of myths about weight gain are mostly passed down from "gym talk" and so-called experts who know nothing about the body's workings. Myths that lead to wasted time, frustration and if are taken blindly as truth, can really set back your progress in the gym. Don't believe everything you hear when it comes to exercise and weight gain. Simple, basic principles apply to all weight and muscle gain such as progressive overload, variable frequency of reps and high intensity workouts. Lets take a look at some of the most common weight gain myths. High repeti ...

The DNA of Top Achievers
Of course by now we are all becoming aware of DNA. It is the source code that determines who we are. When we look at DNA we can see what a person will look like, what diseases they may come down with, etc. This has been a tremendous breakthrough for scientists and will continue to be so for some time, I think. This got me to thinking about what makes up those who are top achievers. Is there a "DNA" to them? Obviously, all top achievers wouldn't have the same literal DNA but what about a figurative DNA? Is there a common "gene" that they all have? Are there common "genes" perhaps? I th ...

Understanding Coeliac Disease
Coeliac disease is a genetic condition that is caused by an inability to digest gluten. Hence the reason that this disease is also known as gluten intolerance. It appears that genetics predispose some people to coeliac disease. For these people, some of the constituents of proteins found in wheat, in gluten and gliadin, become toxic to the lining of the stomach. The condition is often diagnosed in childhood after weaning when cereals are introduced into the diet, although it can be diagnosed at any age. The symptoms can be subtle, and you may feel unwell for no reason for some time before t ...
