  • Developing a Fitness Attitude - A Healthy Weight Loss Program Approach

Exercise is Not a Four Letter Word

It's obvious that the word 'exercise' has more than four letters, but many of us will agree it sounds like a four-letter word.

Indeed, many people feel so negatively about exercise, experts often advise using the term 'physical activity' instead.

No matter what you call it, moving your body is critical to feeling and staying well. And to achieve and maintain healthy weights, it's key. The sticking point generally comes when we try to do it. (Regardless what Nike says, there's a bit more to it sometimes than just doing it.)

    So ...

    What is Canine Hip Dysplasia?

Canine Hip Dysplasia (CHD) is a congenital disease that mainly affects large breed dogs. The word "dysplasia" means improper growth. Hip dysplasia can be described as a faulty or abnormal development of the hip. In CHD, the hip becomes loose and wobbly, eventually leading to a form of arthritis which is commonly referred to Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD). The degree of lameness that occurs is usually dependent upon the extent of arthritic changes in the hip joint. So too do environmental conditions such as amount of physical exercise, and weight gain co ...

  • Human Origins
The issue of human evolution going back at least 9,000,000 (nine million) years and possibly even being upright by that time is another of the facts which when in my youth seemed totally ridiculous. Actually many mystics said it goes back twelve million years to when what could be called the missing link occurred. The matter of whether we descended from apes is still up in the air and more importantly it would appear the mystics were right about cross-breeding and shamanistic attunements to affect such things in many life forms. These qualitative or spiritual changes are reflected in an indivi ...

Workers Focus on Positives of Genetic Research
Psychiatric News story - "Researchers were surprised to find that American employees at two work sites were generally open to the idea of having people participate in research exploring the genetics of mental and physical illnesses. How do Americans view participation in research having to do with the genetics of mental and physical illnesses? Quite favorably, a pilot study suggests. It was headed by Laura Roberts, M.D., chair of psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a bioethics professor for the college's Health Policy Institute. Results appeared in the January-February Comprehensive Psychiatry."

  • Antioxidants and Your Health

Get back to the basics - eat fresh at home and neutralize free radical oxidation, which is rusting away your body, by eating a variety of foods high in antioxidants every day.

Why? Antioxidants, as the name implies, help prevent oxidation, may help increase immune function and possibly decrease risk of infection and cancer.

A few of the better known antioxidants include carotenoids-- the substance that gives fruits and vegetables their deep rich colors. Apricots, broccoli, pumpkin, cantaloupes, spinach and sweet potatoes, are some good choices in addition to lycopene in tomatoes ...
