  • Can Motherhood Make You Smarter?
    Copyright 2005 Mary Desaulniers

It was not too long ago that the I.Q. test was a routinely administered exercise in elementary and secondary schools. At that time (late seventies and early eighties), schools placed great faith in these magic numbers. Flag those above 125 and those below 90, teachers were told. And we did, dutifully assigning enrichment or remedial programs accordingly.

Those were the years when we worked within a narrow understanding of the brains potential. Content dictated everything from test scores to curriculum because the model of the brain we worked from ...

  • Nothing here Folks
Some people say the Net is a great wasteland, all those billions of bits and bytes of data zooming around in all directions, without form or content. Such people are full of something savvy computer professionals call "hooey".

Fact is, it's almost impossible to spend any amount of time on the Net without accomplishing something, even when you don't want to. Now, doing nothing - that takes focus and discipline. Sounds odd, but the hardcore slacker must be the very picture of diligence in his fight against that old bugaboo - productivity. Let your guard down for a second and you'll be cal ...

  • Enabling Technology
You know you are a PC addict when you can't tear yourself away from what you're doing to watch X-Files. On the plus side, you know you can cope with your addiction if you can manage to raise yourself out of the swivel chair for long enough to set the video. Millions of people watch X-Files and even there are fan clubs on the Net. Its members call themselves X-Philes the sort of word play that only works online.

Of course, with huge viewers you hardly need to go online to contact a fellow fan, but it's an example of the way in which PC technology enables you to extend your enjoyment of a ...

    Genetics News:

Are Genetically Modified Foods Really Safe?
Are Genetically Modified Foods Really Safe? In the absence of serious studies to answer that question, there is no way to tell. But there is plenty of evidence that tends to tip the scales towards a resounding NO. In his testimony to the Vermont State Agriculture Committee, transcribed with the title "Exposing the Dangers of Genetically Engineered Foods", Jeffrey M. Smith, author of Seeds of Deception, argues that there is serious cause for concern. How come feeding studies are not routinely performed for each new genetically modified variety of corn, tomatoes or fish? The trick used by GM producers in collusion with legislators world wide is called substantial equivalence. Codex...

Discussion on Genetically Modified free food - 15th March
Is it fresh? Is it pure? These are not the only questions you need to ask when you are shopping at your favorite grocery shop. Will it harm my baby? • Benefits of Human Genome Project
Rapid progress in genome science and a glimpse into its potential applications have spurred observers to predict that biology will be the foremost science of the 21st century. Technology and resources generated by the Human Genome Project and other genomics research are already having a major impact on research across the life sciences. The potential for commercial development of genomics research presents U.S. industry with a wealth of opportunities, and sales of DNA-based products and technologies in the biotechnology industry are projected to exceed $45 billion by 2009 (Consulting Resources ...

These classes represented the culmination of the best breeding programs built on the best efforts of horsemen and women since this breeds conception. These horses proudly carry the genetics and baton of inspiration for the future as a breed.

  • More Ways to Deal With Acne

The cures for acne vary dependant on the type and severity of acne. The truth is, there is currently no cure for acne, only treatments. Some people have success treating their acne with over the counter topical medications, and others require a combination of prescription oral and topical treatments. These medications treat the symptoms of acne (the inflammation) and help to prevent future breakouts but do not address the cause of acne.

There are several commonly known contributors to acne outbreaks and most of these conditions can be controlled.
