  • Build Child's Self-Esteem to Increase Safety
Low self-esteem in children leaves them vulnerable to the compliments and praise of a stranger. Children that receive continual support from home will feel good about them, have higher self-esteem, and be more self-confident.

Children with self-confidence are more likely to stay away from anyone that makes advances toward them will ill intentions.

Keep you child comfortable talking to you. If you make them feel loved and understood at home, they will be more likely to keep open communication lines with you, even on sensitive subjects. They won't have to turn to others for underst ...

    When Aspirin Isn’t Enough

It’s surprising how clearly we can recall getting hurt. Years later, we can recount our first fall from a too-tempting tree, a bee-sting, the birth of a child. We can even tell humorous stories about those events because the pain was transient – it passed.

But many illnesses and conditions can make pain a daily visitor, interfering with our jobs, family lives, even sleep. Even ancient people tried to relieve the devastation of chronic pain using surgeries and medicinal herbs. By the 1800s, people started using narcotics (drugs like opium) to redu ...

Identification of a protein important for Hepatitis B replication

In a paper in this month's PLoS Medicine, researchers from the Genome Institute of Singapore describe the identification of a human cellular protein that has a significant effect on the replication efficiency of Hepatitis B virus. Lisa F. P. Ng and colleagues found the protein--hnRNPK--when they noted an association between one particular sequence in the Hepatitis B virus and high levels of the virus in some infected patients... click link for more info.

NIH plans to sequence cow genome

The National Institutes of Health revealed Tuesday it plans to begin sequencing the genome or the layout of the genes of the cow as early as September, a project officials said could lead to a better understanding of the genetic basis for human health and disease. "By comparing the human genome with the genomes of different organisms, we can better understand the structure and function of human genes and thereby develop new strategies in the battle against human disease," National Human Genome Research Institute Director Dr. Francis S. Collins said in a written statement. Project to sequence cow genes OKd MSNBC Baylor has a cow in genome project

The Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation: Scientists Adapt Facial Recognition Technology to Scan the Genome for Cancer Genes

LA JOLLA, CA (MARKET WIRE) A team of scientists from La Jolla, California, led by researchers at GNF, have for the first time successfully combined microscopic cellular analysis with the genome-wide interrogation of individual gene function to find biological causes of cancer.

  • Eat Fiber and Avoid Constipation

To have regular bowel movements and escape constipation you need to eat more fiber. Fiber from raw vegetable and fruits is better for you than fiber from grains. Why? Raw vegetables and fruits are live foods with enzymes, minerals, vitamins, and many antioxidants that are charged electrically. They have a magnetic energy that is absorbed by your DNA. So get more fiber from this source and less from grains.

Don't forget about water. If you don't get enough water during the day, your body will take the water out of your fecal matter in the colon and make your stools hard. Drink a minimu ...

  • Protein - The Denominator Customary to All Diets

The Human Body is in a constant flux with the environment. Matter and molecules flow in and out, casting themselves into its complexities. Although the body lends them structure, it is the intake—the diet—that decides its physique. To control what goes in a diet is to choose what stays inside. Dietary decisions reflect an awareness of metabolism and the nutrients needed to modify it. There may be a host of diets purported for each activity and illness. However, the one macronutrient that is invariably required, in substantial amounts irrespective of the physiological state, is protein.

  • Documenting the Undocumented with RFID Chips or Cards

Here is an idea which came out of one of our recent thinking groups meetings regarding border security, which seems to be appropriate. First we seal off the borders and only allow crossing thru certain border check points. Robots patrol, if they see you they warn you to stop and go back in Spanish, then warn one more time. Then shoot non-lethal shot. If the perpetrator continues to the next zone, they are warned to go back twice and then if they continue they are shot dead. Running persons in reverse direction and back the country can continue without hassle as long as they keep moving out ...
