  • Know Your Vitamins
What exactly are vitamins ? A combination of ' vita ' which means life in Latin and " amines " which stand for a chemical group of nitrogen-carrying compounds, vitamins are generally acknowledged as " life-giving " substances
IN SCIENTIFIC TERMS, VITAMINS are organic substances that act as coenzymes and/or regulators of metabolic processes. There are 13 known vitamins, most of which are present in natural foods or supplements, and some are produced within the body. Vitamins are extremely vital for life. They are needed for almost every growth and developmental function in the body.

  • Growing Veal Without Animal Abuse

Let us discuss an interesting new innovation in the process of feeding the World. Researchers have found a way to grow flesh without the Chicken. Very good. Why is this good? Bird Flu Virus for one. Let us look at the problems of growing a whole chicken simply to make the ‘Chicken Mc Nuggets’. That produces a lot of waste for instance high in protein chicken feathers. In South Carolina Chicken feathers, carcasses and waste has polluted the water and caused flesh-eating bacteria to eat through fish and leave a hole the circumference of a quarter.

Killing the fish. Of course this same f ...

  • Lasers - A Modern Cosmetic Treatment For Acne Blemishes

The best way to protect your skin from acne-related scarring is to take preventative measures early on. But it is often true that people who suffer from acne are unable to prevent future scarring sufficiently. In fact, it is estimated that more than 10 million Americans end up with scarring caused by acne.

There are many degrees of acne-related scarring. In some cases, the scarring is very minimal and hard to notice. But in other cases, scarring is severe and can cause long-term emotional damage. Many teenagers who have severe scarring caused by acne suffer from depression and a loss ...

REDfly: a regulatory element database for Drosophila.
Publication Date: 2005 Nov 22 PMID: 16303794Authors: Gallo, S. M. - Li, L. - Hu, Z. - Halfon, M. S.Journal: BioinformaticsSUMMARY: Bioinformatics studies of transcriptional regulation in the metazoa are significantly hindered by the absence of readily available data on large numbers of transcriptional cis-regulatory modules (CRMs). Even the richly annotated Drosophila melanogaster genome lacks extensive CRM information. We therefore present here a database of Drosophila CRMs curated from the literature complete with both DNA sequence and a searchable description of the gene expression pattern regulated by each CRM. This resource should greatly facilitate the development of computational approaches to CRM discovery as well as bioinformatics analyses of regulatory sequence properties and evolution. • Does your Water Supply contain Drugs or Toxins
Scientists have discovered Pharmaceutical Drugs and Toxins in the Water Supply, Are you drinking this potentially dangerous cocktail.

Water treatment plants are set up to eliminate certain types of waste materials, such as pesticides, herbicides and heavy metals from the water supply. They cannot however cope, neither are they equipped to deal with pharmaceuticals, as you will probably know, up to 90% of drugs that are taken in to our bodies, is eliminated by the kidneys and urine, so whatever passes through our bodies, eventually end up back at the water treatment plant and then in to ...

Copyright 2004 by http://www.organicgreens.us and Loring Windblad. This article may be freely copied and used on other web sites only if it is copied complete with all links and text intact and unchanged except for minor improvements such as misspellings and typos.

Biotechnology, a '90s buzzword, popularly conjures up somewhat ominous images of gene-tinkering. Yet manipulating the genetic makeup of plants and animals to improve crop yields is far from new. Cross-breeding for desired traits such as tallness, greater milk yield or sweeter fruits, has been practiced ever since humans took ...
