  • Science and Religion (Part 1)
Could life have evolved by accident? Are we alone in the universe? These are the questions which have pounded the consciousness of individuals. Plus this no less persistent question: what is the purpose of life? Dinosaurs have come and gone. Modern man—Homo sapiens—has landed on the moon. Satellites map our solar system. New planets are being discovered on a regular basis. New theories proposed. Old ones discredited. Genetics, a new field of study—though not so new—ready to re-invent this singular species: mankind. Men of science and of faith are no further apart as a test tube from a pulpit. ...

  • Melanin: Aging of the Skin and Skin Cancer

"Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is responsible for 90% of the visible signs of aging on the skin of whites," says Dr. Michael J. Martin, former Assistant Clinical Professor in the Dept. of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at University of California, San Francisco.

Blacks' skin, however, ages much slower.

Why are most dark-skinned blacks protected from harmful UV rays? Because compared to whites, blacks possess more melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color.

    Melanin

Melanin offers protection against UV rays for blacks and other dark-skinned people. Conversely, fair-sk ...

  • What is a herniated disc and what can you do about it?
So what in the world is a Herniated Disc??? Well, rather than confuse you more, I am going to give you my simple, easy to understand definition…

a herniated disc is simply a protrusion, or sticking out of the disc. Think of a disc as a balloon being held in place between your hands… if you push your hands together unevenly the balloon will bulge out on the opposite side. This is what happens to the disc between the vertebrae.

A Bulging Disc is the same thing as a herniated disc… just a different name.

Herniated discs are probably one of the most common diagnosis’s for back ...

  • Growing Veal Without Animal Abuse

Let us discuss an interesting new innovation in the process of feeding the World. Researchers have found a way to grow flesh without the Chicken. Very good. Why is this good? Bird Flu Virus for one. Let us look at the problems of growing a whole chicken simply to make the ‘Chicken Mc Nuggets’. That produces a lot of waste for instance high in protein chicken feathers. In South Carolina Chicken feathers, carcasses and waste has polluted the water and caused flesh-eating bacteria to eat through fish and leave a hole the circumference of a quarter.

Killing the fish. Of course this same f ...

  • The DNA of Top Achievers

Of course by now we are all becoming aware of DNA. It is the source code that determines who we are. When we look at DNA we can see what a person will look like, what diseases they may come down with, etc. This has been a tremendous breakthrough for scientists and will continue to be so for some time, I think.

This got me to thinking about what makes up those who are top achievers. Is there a "DNA" to them? Obviously, all top achievers wouldn't have the same literal DNA but what about a figurative DNA? Is there a common "gene" that they all have? Are there common "genes" perhaps? I th ...
