  • Particle Beams Sending Specs of Dust Back in Time

Can a particle beam under the right conditions send specs of dust back into time? The answer is yes this could be possible under the right conditions, even more far out is the idea of sending dust to a set of coordinates in a region in four dimensions or a point in the atmosphere to start a cloud formation or make rain, or a huge dust cloud to shield top secret weaponry during prototype tests in the middle of a war. If you can send particles somewhere or through space to a certain coordinate or into a different time or onto another planet. You could actually terra form Mars or a distant wor ...

  • Is Your Domain Name On Someone's Wanted List?

A good domain name is, and will always be, essential for any online business. If you ask me, the internet is still only just evolving from infancy. It's a long way to maturity.

Still the world has come a long way since Ken Olson, president & founder of Digital Equipment Corp. etched his name in history, when he proclaimed less than 30 years ago, "There's no reason why anyone would want a computer in their home."

How technology has changed our lives within a span of a single generation. Sooner rather than later, more and more businesses will want to go online and cater to a globa ...

  • Cats, Dogs, and Cancer

A detection technique called TRAP (Telomeric Repeat Amplification Protocol) used in the early detection of cancer in humans has found its way into the realm of veterinary medicine. This relatively new method of cancer detection allows veterinarians to catch cancer earlier, increasing the likelihood of successful treatment.

The test works by detecting the enzyme telomerase, which helps cancer cells reproduce indefinitely. Telomerase activity seems to be a unique feature of benign tumor cells that have undergone malignant transformation.

Regular cells and cancer cells have some ve ...

Population dynamics of the 2 major mitochondrial DNA haplotypes in experimental populations of Drosophila subobscura
Pedro Oliver, Joan Balany, Maria Misericrdia Ramon, Antnia Picornell, Lluis Serra, Andrs Moya, and Jos A. CastroThe evolution of Drosophila subobscura mitochondrial DNA has been studied in experimental populations, founded with flies from a natural population from Calvi (Majorca, Balearic Islands,...

    The Genographic Project
National Geographic's Genographic Project offers you a chance to take part in a five year exploration into your deep ancestry. After a cheek swab to aquire some of your DNA, you mail your sample to their labs, and within a few weeks you'll know who your earliest human relatives are - the members of your specific haplogroup. While you get 50% of your DNA from both parents, you get 100% of your Mitochondrial DNA from your mother. This means your Mitochondrial DNA will be the same as your mother, her mother, her grandmother, and so on. In fact your Mitochondrial DNA will be the same as your ancient matrilineal ancestors (your haplogroup). The Genographic Project website will provide you with further details about your specific lineage and your ancient relatives journeys across the planet. Very interesting!

Breast Cancer Risk Increased for African-Americans with Mitochondrial DNA Variant
PHILADELPHIA--African-American women who carry the 10398A mitochondrial DNA allele are 60 percent more likely to develop invasive breast cancer than African-American females without that genetic marker, according to research published in the September 1 issue of "Cancer Research." "These findings support the notion that variations in the genetic sequence of mitochondrial DNA are underappreciated

Bioanalyzer Applications in Forensic Mitochondrial DNA Analysis
The Agilent 2100 bioanalyzer is a personal Lab-on-a-Chip platform operating disposable microfluidic chips for analysis of DNA/RNA/Proteins and cells. For the last 4 years, the Agilent 2100 bioanalyzer has replaced gel electrophoresis for the analysis of DNA fragments in many laboratories around the world. It is currently used for GMO detection, target validation via end-point PCR, pathogen detection, mutation analysis, and microsatellite analysis. The current seminar explains how microfluidics technology can be used for DNA analysis and gives an overview over widely used application areas.

  • Vitamins that May Affect Hair Growth

Several different vitamin or mineral deficiencies can cause dry hair. To treat dry hair, try taking a multivitamin with 100 percent of the daily value of the essential vitamins. A multivitamin and mineral combination may provide some added coverage for possible deficiencies.

It's been shown that too little biotin and pantothenic acid (both B-complex vitamins) can lead to dry hair. Shampoos and hair treatment products commonly contain pantothenic acid (or pantothenol).

But evidence supporting the benefits of pantothenic acid for dry hair and hair loss is very weak. Also, some peo ...

  • Why Do You Have Asthma?
Asthma is an inflammatory condition where your bronchiales constrict causing breathing difficulties. Your bronchioles become inflamed for a variety of physical, emotional and environmental reasons. It is not contagious so, you cannot catch it from another person.

But what is the real cause asthma? Why do some people develop asthma and why is asthma more common in the western world?

    Inheriting Asthma

However, you can inherit the asthma tendency from your parents, although people with asthma should not worry about their future children on this score.

  • Solution to Obesity

First of all we need to find out a reason for this growing mountain of fat that is killing us.

We know now that the traditional explanation - that of overeating - is wrong. People eat when they’re hungry, and they stop when they’re full. The problem lies in hormonal imbalance inside our bodies, an imbalance that deprives us of the energy to live life to the full, and instead stores the energy as fat.

What influences human hormonal balance? The three biggest factors are: genetics, diet, and stress.

There are no prizes for guessing which one of those three is the easiest to ...
