The Measurement Problem in Quantum Mechanics
Arguably the most intractable philosophical question attached to Quantum Mechanics (QM) is that of Measurement. The accepted (a.k.a. Copenhagen) Interpretation of QM says that the very act of sentient measurement determines the outcome of the measurement in the quantum (microcosmic) realm. The wave function (which describes the co-existing, superpositioned, states of the system) "collapses" following an act of measurement.
It seems that just by knowing the results of a measurement we determine its outcome, determine the state of the system and, by implication, the state of the Universe ...

New Hope for Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia Sufferers
There are numerous theories with regard to the causes of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, many of which may be indeed touching on the truth or at least touching on an aggravator or contributor to these afflictions. Diseases in general have been growing in epidemic proportion over at least the past 20 years, especially in the United States, where our increasingly toxic environment and lifestyles have drifted further and further away from what is natural in the name of progress, technology, and profit. Chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia are no exception, the two often being experienced togethe ...

Cloning In The Animal Kingdom
The New Scientist is carrying an interesting article on cloning in nature. From the article: The ant Wasmannia Auropunctata, which is native to Central and South America but has spread into the US and beyond, has opted for a unique stand-off in the battle of the sexes. Both queens and males reproduce by making genetically identical copies of themselves - so males and females seem to have entirely separate gene pools.

Movie Review - Cellular
Cellular - 2005 New Line Productions Inc.
I had a chance to watch Cellular the other day and my first thought was that here we go with another spin-off of Phone Booth, another movie with someone forced to stay on the phone for 90 some minutes while we cringe in our seat. But, to my surprise , this was actually a very enjoyable movie. I’m am not really sure what genre to classify this movie in because it has it all. Suspense, drama, action, comic relief; this movie has everything. The movie begins with the kidnapping of Jessica Martin, played by Kim Bassinger. Jessica is a high sch ...

The News at Meucci Appaloosa Horse Ranch
We’re back from the 2005 nationals, held in Oklahoma City. We were competing, as usual, in only Open Halter Events. Our entries on July 7th and 8th were weanling colts, weanling fillies, yearling mares, and two-year-old mares. We were victorious garnering four top tens in large classes. These classes represented the culmination of the best breeding programs built on the best efforts of horsemen and women since this breed’s conception. These horses proudly carry the genetics and baton of inspiration for the future as a breed.
